The AS/EN9100:2009 (Rev C) aerospace/defence standard introduced challenging new requirements for the QMS (Quality Management System) and will now subject to a strikingly different third-party audit. Congratulations to our recent client successes -
The approach used by Certification Bodies is laid out in AS/EN9101:2010 (Rev D) and mandates the use of a ‘process-based approach’ with high-profile ‘customer focus’. This will involve an evaluation of the measurement and active management of customer satisfaction plus process-level effectiveness (PEARs) and overall QMS efficiency and effectiveness. The third-party process includes an audit of the interrelated processes and activities for continual improvement of the QMS, its processes, their conformity, and their effectiveness (using PEARs) – deficiencies will result in major nonconformities!
Certification Bodies will pay special attention to assessing how customer-specific and regulatory QMS-requirements (as appropriate) are incorporated into the QMS. The validation, monitoring, measuring, and control of special processes will also be targets for the third-party auditors. More attention will be given to risk management (and the use of analytical tools such as PFMEA, FTA, etc.), project management including NPI (new product introduction) and configuration managent (for all companies in an appropriate manner).

The leap from a traditional clause-based and ‘procedural-driven’ (largely narrative) QMS to a modern, visual process-driven system requires a quantum leap of similar magnitude as the move from convention to lean manufacture and six sigma. It’s more Big Bang rather that Transition! Experience has shown that the benefits outweigh the hassle –
Remember TEC are not just a training provider – we are implementation specialists with over 20-years experience. Our full-time team members have designed, documented and implemented modern visual 'process-driven' systems through to successful third-party certifications in hundreds of companies. The systems conform to the AS/EN91XX:2009 series of standards plus applicable contractual (customer-specific) and regulatory requirements (EASA, FAA, etc.).
Our tried-and-tested AS/EN9100:2009 (Rev C) Implementation Programme transforms basic AS/EN9100 conformance into a vibrant process-orientated integrated management system making full use the modern visual management techniques. Every programme is tailored to meet unique client requirements so that you only pay for what you need!
Working with our client's staff, we identify and map all processes, along with their sequences and interactions. Use is made of SIPOC-Turtle diagrams to impose controlled conditions for these identified processes. The key activities of every process are process mapped in detail to ensure robust control and to impose 'standard work' arrangements. During implementation 'skills gaps' are identified and necessary training and coaching sessions are synchronised with system implementation so that newly acquired skills can be used immediately.
Implementation is routinely delivered over 3- to 4-months and programmes are only considered complete after third-party certification!
